Come fly with me, let’s fly let’s fly away…
In today’s article I would like to share with you the best seat to spot the Golden Gate Bridge before approaching the airport of San Francisco.
I think many people seem to have a wrong idea about what it means to be a cabin crew member. And sometimes I am not surprised when having a look on the Instagram feed of many “blogging flight attendants“. You will find some “cloudporn“ here (please excuse my French), a picture from the flight deck there and in between some “crewfies” of smiling crew members with red lipstick.
Needless to say, being a cabin crew requires much more than having a look outside an airplane and take selfies in uniform. But that is a whole different story. I always try to focus on the good things. Besides all the hassle flying is beautiful, as a passenger and as a crew. Need a proof? On your next flight I ask you to put your laptop aside for a moment. Turn off that movie. Open the window-shade and look outside. You won’t regret it.
World from above…
When working on a flight I always take some seconds to look out of the window and be astonished what is underneath us and what has been revealed by the clouds. From beautiful sunrises that make it worth getting up in the middle of the night, to the glittery lights of iconic cities, the most stunning skylines, major sights, snow-covered mountains or colorful sunsets.
The best seat..
The most iconic sightseeing flight I have recently been on is the one from Zurich to San Francisco. Nothing beats the view on the Golden Gate Bridge from above before landing in San Francisco. Pure anticipation! When approaching the airport of SFO and the sky is clear you can have the most amazing view on the Bay Area. Unfortunately, fog can be an issue in SFO and the visibility can change within minutes.
Golden Gate Bridge
For the most iconic picture have a seat on the left-hand-side of the plane, as the chances are much higher due to the flight routing. For better results try to avoid a seat too close to the wing, as it might limit your view (have a look on the seat-map when checking in).
But also during the flight it is worth looking outside the window. After approximately four hours the plane usually reaches the south-eastern border of Greenland. Again, when having a window seat you will have the most amazing view on Greenland and its icebergs. If you are not having a nap after lunch you should have a glimpse on it.
Sightseeing flight ZRH-SFO
I’ve been to San Francisco three times in the past twelve months and was lucky enough to capture some pretty nice pictures en-route I would like to share with you. These tips are based on my personal experience. Of course it always depends on the routing and the weather.
