Long time, no travels. As much as I love the change of settings and my steadier life, I sometimes miss my old busy airport life and all the traveling. That’s why it makes me beyond happy to finally have some travels on my agenda again. And this time it is something big, something I’ve been dreaming of for quite some time now. But first things first. Those of you who follow me on Instagram or have read my Travel Bucket List from this summer know how obsessed I am with the New7Wonders of the World.
The New7Wonders of the World
For those of you who are not as passionate about them as I am, here is a brief explanation: New7Wonders of the World was a Swiss initiative founded in 2001. Their purpose is to inspire and make people all over the world more aware of the heritage and richness of our planet. Most monuments are natural wonders and built constructions that have been well preserved for a long time. In 2007 they announced seven winners out of 200 still existing monuments (such a tough choice, I guess!), which are:
➵ The Great Wall of China, People’s Republic of China
➵ Christ the Redeemer, Brazil
➵ Taj Mahal, India
➵ Petra, Jordan
➵ Chichen Itza, Mexico
➵ Machu Picchu, Peru
➵ Colosseum, Italy
Ever since I realized I already saw some of the New7Wonders of the World, I wanted to see them all. 🙂 And I got quite ambitious to work towards achieving that goal. I remember flying to Rio de Janeiro for a quick day-trip during a São Paulo layover for the purpose of seeing Christo. I went to the Taj Mahal immediately after landing after a long and tiring flight to Delhi. And to see Chichen Itza, I even took one of those horrible organized tours. But all the effort, lack of sleep and stress were so, so worth it. One was more beautiful than the other one and it would be hard for me to pick my favorite. I still get goosebumps when thinking of the moment I saw the sun rising over the Taj Mahal. And my trip to Petra earlier this year was the most beautiful thing I’ve seen in a long time. It gave me so much positive energy. Sounds absurd? I call it a mix of fond of traveling and maybe a tiny bit crazy. 🙂

One at a time
Over the past years I was blessed to see six out of seven wonders of the world, the only one missing on this list is M A C H U P I C C H U in Peru. And I am happy that I will fulfill this dream next week. ♥ Not only happy, I’m beyond excited (ahhhhh!!!). Machu Picchu has been on my bucket list forever and I was waiting for the perfect opportunity to finally get to see it. Together with some of my favorite travel buddies I will not only see Machu Picchu, but combine it with exploring more of South America. Amongst Peru, we will also see a tiny bit of Bolivia, Argentina and Brazil. Unfortunately time is as always limited, but I will make the most out of it. Let’s fill that backpack and make memories!
And I really would like to share my travels with you and take you along virtually. Make sure to follow me on Instagram, where I will update you regularly about our trip. And when I’m back I will write some articles for the blog. 🙂
Have you already seen some of the New7Wonders of the World?
Which one is your favorite?
Is there also something travel-wise you are as passionate about?
In the meantime there are some snapshots from when I was visiting the other New7Wonders of the World:
